How to Nail the Beret Trend

If you've been seeing berets popping up on your instagram feed recently but you're wondering how to style one of your own without making it look too costumey, this post is for you.  I've had a fascination with Parisian fashion since I can remember.

As a kid, I loved sketching out dresses inspired by Parisian couture (more about that here) and as an adult, Parisian fashion continues to inspire me on a daily basis because it's so timeless.

I haven't actually worn a beret in years but today I decided to style my outfit around a simple black one for some extra je ne sais quoi.

All Black Everything

Today, I paired my classic beret with an all black ensemble.  I am currently obsessed with this comfy black jumpsuit because it's been perfect for me postpartum. I love that it cinches at the waist because it draws the eye inward and creates an hourglass shape.

I also love that it fits so beautifully length-wise—hitting just above the ankle (which is especially perfect because I'm only 5"4 and this rarely ever happens without me having to hem my pants).

I topped off the look with mules and classic black sunnies. I love that the beret flows so seamlessly with the rest of the outfit.

Back To Work Update

I actually wore this jumpsuit on my second day back to work. It felt professional but laid back at the same time--not to mention I love that it snaps in the front which makes it perfect for pumping!

Speaking of pumping, one of the things I was most nervous about in terms of going back to work was figuring out how to nail a pumping schedule that would help me to keep up my supply without cutting too much into my workload.A week into being back at work, I am thankful to say I'm getting the hang of all of this.

It's taking a lot of getting used to but I'm taking my laptop into my pumping room and I'm continuing to get my work done.

Cleaning out my pump's parts and storing the milk properly are what takes the longest but I'm getting there.  This week, I haven't been as sad as I was last week pumping without Naiya because it's starting to feel more like a routine. I miss her like crazy all day but I'm getting more used to this new normal.

Baby Update

By the time I get home from work, I'm dying to see Naiya!  She's still not eating from a bottle (can't believe this is still going on!) so she is starving by evening and she goes onto cluster-feed the rest of the night (#tiredmama).

Needless to say, Phil and I can't wait to see if we will be able to sleep train her soon because functioning on only a couple hours of sleep (if that!) has been super tough.

I have so much respect for every mom who has come before me.  As rewarding as it is, this truly is the hardest job in the world and I'm learning a bit more about how to improve every day.
