Whenever a new baby is born to one of our family friends, my mom always calls me two seconds later asking for creative gift ideas for new mamas. After having Naiya, we were showered with the sweetest, most creative gifts from friends and family.

When it comes to new mom-ing, if you're anything like me, you probably tell people you truly only want the necessities when it comes to gifts. I didn't know this right away but I definitely learned it as I went because #bigcityliving!
Phil and I live in a spacious-enough townhouse in LA but the minute we had Naiya, the walls felt like they started caving in. Our place truly felt like it shrunk because babies come with so much stuff!
Bassinets, cribs, high chairs, SO MANY BOTTLES, rock 'n plays, swings--it's pure madness. We were so grateful for all of the gifts we received but now that we've been through new parenthood once, we now know what we really needed and what we didn't need as much.
The Gift New Mamas Don't Know They Need
One thing I didn't realize I needed was a nameplate necklace. Okay--so I use the word "need" loosely but humor me for a minute! After opening the sweetest gifts for Naiya, one of my friends sent me a necklace with Naiya's name on it. It was the first thing I opened that was for me since becoming a mama (other than my nursing pump!) and I was so excited! This gift didn't take up too much space and it was just so special.
I put the necklace on right away and I didn't take it off for months. I wore it on my first day back to work from maternity leave while I had tears streaming down my face and I still wear it to this day.
