Debuting Baby Bump #2
A big thank you to all of you who reached out with the kindest words regarding our pregnancy announcement #2 on Instagram!
I'm still pinching myself that Naiya is going to be a big sister and that we'll be a party of four so soon! To recap: Phil and I are due with baby #2 this coming October!
It's been such a crazy whirlwind of a few months--so much so that I've had to cut back on updates on here until now. So excited to explain why and to finally share all the things below that will get you up to speed!
Surprise: Pregnancy #2
I started a new job this spring that I'm really excited about. Around the same time, I started feeling extremely sick. I'm talking lethargic, nauseous, dizzy, and beyond tired. I attributed all of these things to stress and kept pushing through as best as I could.
A few weeks later, the symptoms progressed further. Phil was out of town on a business trip and I could barely balance work and my long commute with running home to put Naiya to bed. By now, I was experiencing a new level of exhaustion and something felt SO off. One night, I decided to take a pregnancy test on a whim.
I was still nursing Naiya at this time (the kid just wouldn't wean!) and my cycle hadn't really come back so I thought this test would give me peace of mind. One minute later, a bold plus sign was staring me in the face. I started shaking and crying with happiness, excitement and shock all at the same time.
Could this be real? I tried another test and saw the same result! The toughest part? Phil was still out of town, it was midnight and I was home alone!
Breaking The News To My Hubby
I didn't want to share the big news with Phil over the phone--especially so late! I decided to wait to tell him in person. The next day or so felt like an eternity! When Phil finally came home the next evening, I wrapped up the pregnancy test in a gift bag and let him open it. Completely surprised, his jaw dropped to the floor.
Just like me, he was so excited and nervous at the same time! The thought of being able to bring another being into the world whom we love as much as Naiya felt beyond words.
The type-A person in me couldn't wait to start putting our heads together IMMEDIATELY to figure out how the next few months of our lives were going to change in such a big way.
Of course, the second time mama-to-be in me knew we wouldn't REALLY be able to plan for any of this until our baby's birth! Last time around, we planned out everything to a tee and of course, we ended up flying by the seat of our pants. Parenthood will do that to you!
24-Hour Morning Sickness (Again)
For those of you who've been following along since my pregnancy with Naiya, you'll know that I had extreme morning sickness with her until the moment she was born. Most women experience some sort of morning sickness throughout their first trimesters but with Naiya, I was throwing almost every day up until she came out!
I hoped that this wouldn't happen again with baby #2 but of course, now that I'm in it, I feel like I've woken up exactly where I was a couple of years back. With baby #2, I've been just as nauseous and have been on two prescription medications, Diclegis and Zofran around the clock.
These medications have been helping me to get through it all as best as possible. That said, they haven't helped me to kick the problem entirely--especially at night. Five months in and I'm still throwing up! This has been extremely challenging in balancing Naiya, my new job, and everything in between but I'm doing my best.
Coming Up Next
I'm not going to lie, as excited as I've been, I haven't been having the easiest time over here since I've been pregnant. One of the toughest things about being sick all the time has been having to give up some of my outlets like blogging away at night.
Nighttime is the worst for my morning sickness (with a name like that, go figure!). Since I work all day, there simply haven't been enough hours in the day to get it all done. By the time I get home from work, I can barely keep my eyes open. That said, I'm currently working on carving out sometime as best as I can.
I look forward to hopefully updating you a lot more as this pregnancy progresses! Fingers crossed, I also start to feel better soon! Thanks so much again for your kindness and support! If anyone else has suffered from 24-hour morning sickness or difficult pregnancies in general, I'd love to hear from you! You're all rock stars.
If you're currently going through any of the above (or if you're an exhausted mama who can simply commiserate!), I feel for you! This whole mom-ing thing is definitely not easy but we've got this!
