Family Update: When Life Gives You Lemons
After a LONG couple of months, I'm excited to report that our family is back in LA and FULLY moved into our new home! After the fire we had back in May (more here), insurance ended up taking almost EVERYTHING we owned. They cleaned as much as possible and FINALLY returned the items they could over the past couple of weeks. Everything else was considered a total loss.Sharing photos today of the girls and I soaking up summer in our new backyard under the most beautiful lemon tree. When life gives you lemons...dance around with them, make tons of lemon water and snap ALL the family photos. Scroll down for some recent family updates and outfit details too. It feels SO good to be back HOME!
Family Update:
I've had a tough time keeping up with family update posts since our big move because there has been SO much going on! A few weeks after our house fire back in May, we ended up traveling to the east coast while we got everything fixed. The smoke damage was quite extensive and the entire house smelled like a camp fire. We ended up having to re-do our hardwood floors, wash/paint the walls and clean out our vents big time. This took longer than anticipated.
Throughout the time we were gone, we were able to visit Phil's family in D.C. and my family in upstate New York. A couple of days into our trip, Naiya had a freak accident on a trampoline. She had a "bad jump" and ended up breaking her leg! It was horrible! She had to wear a hard cast for a month up to her thigh and she's still continuing to heal.
From there, we drove 8 hours to upstate New York to see my family. I was especially excited to see my Grandparents who had been extremely isolated in their nursing and assisted living homes throughout the Pandemic. They all contracted COVID a few months back too and it's been quite a tough season.
Thankfully, nursing homes in New York state started to SLOWLY open up just as we arrived. We gave all three of my grandparents (Naiya and Sadie's Great Grandparents!) the BIGGEST hugs. It meant the world to me to spend time with them alongside my immediate family.
One of my grandmothers was also diagnosed with stage 4 cancer during the Pandemic and is suffering a great deal at this point. For all of the above reasons, our trip was ESPECIALLY emotional. We soaked in our special time together and I'm forever grateful.
Family Update (Continued)
Naiya's doctor was initially worried about us flying back to LA with her broken leg due to potential swelling. We FINALLY got the clearance from her doctor to fly and booked our tickets home. Flying with Naiya's cast proved to be nuts after all for other reasons. Since she couldn't walk, we had to carry her, Sadie, all of our luggage AND we also had our dog with us! We were THAT family everyone was starring at at the airport.Phil also had to return the airport rental car a few exits away so he dropped ME off with all of the above. We couldn't tram it with the kids, the cast and ALL the things so this felt like the best option.
I literally looked like a crazy person trying to balance everyone and push everything at once. Also, our flight was delayed three hours AND our ride home couldn’t make it at the 11th hour, so there was also that. I'm honestly not fully sure how we made it back to LA in one piece.
But here we are--back in LA in our NEW house! We love it so much! I couldn't be more excited about this new chapter. I can't wait to post more about our journey and take you along for the ride too. We're in the midst of some exciting renovations and will be decorating like crazy too. Stay tuned!
Outfits Of The Day
I'm obsessing over this black one piece bathing suit with a belt which I scored on Amazon for less than $25.00. It comes in a variety of colors and is super comfy. I paired it with this comfy white linen button-down also from Amazon for a steal--just $9.99.
I tied a nude and white scarf in my hair which is something I've been doing a lot lately. I topped off the look with these oversized white sunnies I'm LOVING. They look a lot like these Celine ones here but I found them on Amazon for less than $15.00!
Naiya and Sadie have been living in swimsuits by Minnow Swim. We love how soft the material is, how well it wears and that there are so many cute options with long sleeves for skin coverage. Sadie's pink suit today has the cutest bow on back. Linking to a similar design here.
